According to the US Department of Labor (DOL) Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) account for 30% of all workplace injuries, and the costs of ergonomic injuries continue to escalate. Every year, nearly two million American workers suffer Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) injuries due to incorrect ergonomic use of their bodies while at work. These injuries are the result of stressing the human body beyond its capacity. Sedentary roles (i.e., desk jobs) typically result in injuries such as tendinitis or tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), or cervical (and lumbar) pain. The positioning of equipment (i.e., office chairs, desk height, accessories) and lack of active movement can lead to discomfort initially and may develop to injury if not addressed.
Taught by Trust personnel, this class will provide participants with the information and training they need to properly evaluate both desktop and mobile/portable work stations, and make adjustments/corrections to help employees work in a neutral posture. Participants will have an opportunity to conduct hands-on workstation ergonomic assessments and apply solutions that help reduce employee’s discomfort.
