Based on member feedback and taught by Trust personnel, this NEW course is designed to provide the necessary information for employees to remain safe while doing their jobs.  Our members face a variety of challenges and exposures for maintaining a safe work environment for both employees and the Individuals served.  Some exposures are unique to an organization while other share common hazards and OSHA regulations.  This class is designed to assist with the identification of safety hazards and controls which can be implemented to reduce injuries as well as a general discussion of OSHA regulations applicable to Social Service Organizations.

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Identify, understand and reduce workplace hazards and exposures to prevent employee and/or client injuries
  • Understand how to complete a hazard awareness review of the organization to identify exposure and controls to reduce these hazards
  • Gain a better understanding of OSHA requirements
  • Resources to assist with implanting an effective safety program

Sandra Adams Brophy, RN, RS, CHSP
Senior Loss Control Consultant, Workers’ Compensation Trust
Sandra Adams Brophy is a Registered Nurse (RN), Connecticut State Registered Sanitarian (RS), and a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP). Sandra has over twenty years of experience as an occupational safety and loss prevention professional, specializing in loss reduction, training development, and risk management consulting for healthcare and municipalities.  She also has over 20 years of experience in the fire service as a firefighter and instructor.  She is a certified trainer for the National Safety Council Defensive Driving 4-hour Course and is an authorized trainer for the 501 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry as well as a Certified Safety Food Manager.  Sandra is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven with a BS in Public and Community Health, and of Quinnipiac College with a Diploma in Nursing. Under the Office of Homeland Security, Sandra was a Safety Officer for the Connecticut Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT).

Pamela Hunter, MS, CSP
Senior Loss Control Consultant, Workers’ Compensation Trust
Pam’s insurance career spans over twenty-five years working for insurance companies and large insurance brokers.  Throughout her career, Pam has provided loss control services to healthcare, municipal and general industry clients throughout New England.   Pam has an expertise in working with companies to develop and enhance their safety programs.  Pam’s loss control credentials include the Certified Safety Professional designation, a B.S. degree in Occupational Safety and Health Administration and a Master’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management from the University of New Haven. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Safety Sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Pam is authorized to teach the OSHA 10/30 hour General Industry course and the National Safety Council’s Defensive Driver Training course. 

Kathy Marek-Bissonnette, CSP
Senior Loss Control Consultant, Workers’ Compensation Trust
Kathy brings over twenty-two years of loss control experience in the insurance industry.  Her vast experience includes all lines of coverage with emphasis on healthcare, training, and Workers’ Compensation.  Kathy is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a certified trainer for the National Safety Council Defensive Driving 4-hour Course, a certified Food Safety Manager, and a qualified OSHA Outreach Trainer for General Industry 10 and 30-hour course.  Kathy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health.

Carlos J. Rivera
Senior Loss Control Consultant, Workers’ Compensation Trust
Carlos Rivera joined the Trust as a Senior Loss Control Consultant in early 2007.  Carlos has over 20 years of experience as a Safety and Health professional, in the manufacturing industry. Carlos’s specialties are in the areas of OSHA compliance, safety program evaluation, indoor air quality, radiation and ergonomics. He is a certified trainer for the National Safety Council Defensive Driving 4-hour Course, an authorized trainer for the 501 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry and a Certified Food Safety Manager.  Carlos holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety from the University of New Haven.

Donna Santamaria, MS 
Senior Loss Control Consultant, Workers’ Compensation Trust
Donna has over thirty years’ experience as a safety and health professional in a variety of industries including healthcare, manufacturing, municipality, and insurance.  She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology with a specialization in Occupational Safety & Health and a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management from the University of New Haven. Donna is certified as a National Safety Council Defensive Driver course instructor and is authorized to teach the OSHA 10/30 hour General Industry course.
