Healthcare industry employees are continually exposed to injury as a result of lifting, transferring, and repositioning patients or residents. This is a major problem for a healthcare profession. Research conducted by safety and health professionals has shown that safe patient lifting and moving programs can protect workers from injury, reduce workers’ compensation costs, and improve the quality of care delivered to patients. The primary focus of this course is to provide general guidance about how caregivers can prevent injury as a result of lifting and moving patients.
